PHILADELPHIA -- The Astros game with the Phillies on Sunday was rained out and has not yet been rescheduled.
Sunday's game was to be part of the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, a celebration throughout Major League Baseball. Robinson's memory was going to be honored by the entire Astros team by wearing his legendary No. 42 on their jerseys.
The rainout also caused Houston manager Phil Garner to shuffle his starting rotation. Wandy Rodrigruez, who was scheduled to start against the Phillies on Sunday, will now face the Marlins on Monday. Garner also moved Roy Oswalt to Tuesday and Chris Simpson to Wednesday.
Oswalt will make the Tuesday start on short rest. He notched his 100th career victory, beating the Phillies on Friday, 9-6, on a frigid night when he could barely feel the ball, giving up a career-high six walks.
Oswalt threw 120 pitches on Friday against the Phillies, but Garner isn't worried that the high pitch count will put a strain on the right-hander when he pitches on short rest.
"He did throw a number of pitches, but he's going to be fine," Garner said. "I wanted to give Sampson another day."
Sampson last pitched on April 10 in Chicago. He threw five shutout frames against the Cubs but was forced to leave the game after straining a muscle in his left calf. He will make his next start on Wednesday in Cincinnati, which will give him seven full days of rest.
