He had 2 good seasons then and then sucked his full seasons with Oakland. The Royals were smart to trade him so I don't think you can qualify it for one of the worst trades. Though they should have gotten more out of him.

That's what I meant. He was evolving into an elite hitter in the league at the time - and we got Neifi Perez out of him. Neifi sucks. Sucks horribly.

In hindsight it's bad. At the time though Maine looked like he'd barely crack the 4th or 5th spot in the rotation. Agreed...The trade wasn't a mistake back then and still isn't a mistaske now in my opinion. We traded a terrible reliever and a 24 year old starting pitcher who was stagnating in mediocrity at the AAA level for a veteran pitcher who could fit in right away to the #3 or #4 spot in the rotation. But Benson gets hurt after one season with the O's and Maine somehow becomes a major league caliber pitcher. Funny how things work out...

the worst trade that i think that was made was San Francisco Giants trade pitchers Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser to Twins for A.J. Pierzynski

Right now it's hard to determine if it is bad or not since Liriano had TJ (which can take awhile to fully recover from) and Bonser is a #3 at best.

No it was bad...Bonser is a #3 which is pretty valuable these days...and Nathan is one of the best closers. Plus Liriano, which we don't know what we have there...

I should have specified that I meant it's hard to determine if it will be one of the worst ever.

You are selling Bonser a bit short here, and you forgot to mention that the Twins also received Joe Nathan in this trade, who is one of the game's most dominant relievers. The Giants got HOSED in this trade, I mean this trade could be a franchise crippler.
