Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, the bases loaded, Albert Pujols on your bench. You have a chance for the NL to finally win an All-Star Game since 1996.
What do you do? Not what Tony La Russa did, not use Albert Pujols.
Thank you, Tony La Russa. Your horrible managing has allowed the AL to continue their dominance of the NL for another year. Could have done without you.

His reasoning was that he wanted to save Albert in case the game went longer. I guess I can kind of see his point, but I still would have used Albert for Rowand.

That's no excuse. He had a chance to put the game away and I'm sure Rowand, whose team is in playoff contention, would not have minded if Pujols PH'd for him.

I'm hearing that Pujols was out of uniform and leaving at the bottom of the 9th and La Russa was covering up for Pujols saying that he was saving him for extra innings.
Pujols is such an a-hole. People get on Barry Bonds and A-Rod, but Pujols is lucky St. Louis is a small market town, he'd NEVER cut it in a big-market city like NYC, Boston, or Chicago.

Yeah, real reliable source. They are just trying to stir up trouble. Why would Pujols act like he did in the post game interviews if LaRussa was covering up for him? Get your facts straight...

Pujols, La Russa: still friends By Joe Strauss ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 07/14/2007 FILE PHOTO: Cardinals' first baseman Albert Pujols, left, and manager Tony LaRussa (CHRIS LEE/P-D) PHILADELPHIA — Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and first baseman Albert Pujols spoke at length Friday for the first time since La Russa's much-discussed decision not to use his own player in Tuesday's All-Star Game. Each reinforced points made to the media in the previous two days and insisted that there is nothing but respect for the other. "My belief has always been that a deep respect exists between us," La Russa said. "If what happened had done something to damage that, it would have bothered me because it would have shown that respect to be superficial. To an extent, I think I've been a father figure to him. I know he means a great deal to me. It would have really hurt to see that diminished." Pujols repeated that he remained available after returning to the National League clubhouse to stretch and apply a balm. Told about reports that he had changed out of his uniform into his suit as the National League rallied for two runs in the ninth inning, Pujols enlisted bullpen coach Marty Mason to corroborate his account that he was in the clubhouse stretching with Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Jose Valverde. Mason, in the clubhouse at the time, said that Pujols absolutely was available. La Russa allowed Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Rowand to hit with the bases loaded and two outs in a 5-4 game. Rowand popped out, leading to a stream of criticism over La Russa leaving his former MVP and batting champion on the bench. "I just told him I was concerned for him because of all the ripping he was getting from the media," Pujols said. "I didn't really care that much for myself, but I know everybody was criticizing him." "If I come up and walk, the game goes extra innings and he's got nobody else to play, and what happens if somebody gets hurt? The media criticizes him. I'm pretty sure he's going to be criticized any way he goes unless we win the game right there," Pujols said. La Russa re-stated he "missed the moment" by not embracing the dramatic significance of having Pujols hit. In hindsight, he said he should have risked a potential forfeit had one of his last eight position players been hurt. "I was thinking about the professional side of it, not about the emotional side of it," La Russa said. "I knew it would be dramatic, but I thought about what a walk or a wild pitch and the position that might put us in." La Russa denied he was in a no-win situation. "If we win, I win," he said. Link

La Russa's antics this year show why the manager whose team has the best record should manage these games. You could tell Leyland really wanted to win. La Russa looked like he couldn't care less.

Based on what? Because LaRussa didn't show emotion? He never shows emotion. I'm wondering what you are basing it on when you say that LaRussa didn't care less.

Just face it. You hate Tony LaRussa and Albert Pujols so you are trying to find something concrete to hate about them. It was a bonehead move by LaRussa, and he knows that. But to rip Pujols like you did for no f*cking reason was uncalled for. Talking about him being an a-hole for something he didn't do. He says one thing after being frustrated after a playoff game about your man crush Glavine and suddenly he's the devil. He gets misquoted by Spanish reporters at a press conference in the Dominican Republic about him not winning the MVP, and people go nuts.
You have no idea what kind of person Pujols is. All you know is what Sportscenter tells you. Sportscenter doesn't give a shit about Pujols or the Cardinals. So the only thing you see is when something goes wrong.
Pujols is a great human being. The guy married his wife, who had two kids already, (one of whom was mentally challenged), and adopted her kids to make them his kids too. He started his own charity which gives money to mentally challenged kids so they can go to school. He made it possible for the place I work at (a school for Autistic children) to stay open.
So before you rip Albert as a human being, get your g*d d*mn facts straight.

Pujols is an a-hole. He's bitter and a sore loser. He just oozes arrogance when he's at the plate. The fact that he bailed out at the ASG and La Russa had to cover it up is pathetic. I'm sure Pujols is a good family man but I couldn't care less about that since it has no effect on my opinions of him as a baseball player.
BTW, I don't watch Sports Center and I don't have a man crush on Glavine (he is a Brave after all).

I've never seen that before. He oozes arrogance? WTF does that mean? I just showed you the f*cking story proving your bullshit theory wrong. It wasn't a cover up. He was in the clubhouse stretching, with Jose Valverde, and he was available to play.
