Ross: Pelfrey Said What?

Cody Ross wasn't pleased when the Mets' Mike Pelfrey hit him with a pitch Saturday. He wasn't thrilled, either, by Pelfrey's response to the spat, which evolved into a benches-clearing episode but didn't escalate into anything more than a verbal standoff.

Afterward, Pelfrey stoked the brewing feud with Ross by telling reporters that he did Ross ''a favor'' by plunking him with two strikes and that the outfielder made a ''fake charge'' toward the mound when Pelfrey hit him with a pitch at Shea Stadium on Aug. 10.

''If he wants to pop off, I'll let him,'' Ross said Sunday after reading the comments. ``I figure you would do that if you were 3-0 against a team and not 0-3.''

Pelfrey (13-8) is 0-3 in four starts against the Marlins. Ross also said he never made a move toward the mound when Pelfrey beaned him in New York.

''I didn't fake charge,'' Ross said. ``He hit me on purpose, and I jumped up and ran to first. I didn't take any steps toward the mound. I never looked at him.''

As for Pelfrey doing Ross a favor by hitting him, Ross responded, ''He better check the stats.'' Ross is 3 for 9 with a double, a triple and three RBI against Pelfrey.

Pelfrey did do him a favor hitting him with 2 strikes since the odds are against Ross of getting on base.. Ross should just be a man and take 1st. Only a child would react the way he did.

Also, Pelfrey is good. Rays/Fish Troll. It's the Marlins who are/were lucky.

It was the 2nd time Ross got hit by Pelfrey. He has the rights to be angry. Pelfrey could had just ended their, but nope he had to make those comment to the media after the game, when the stats goes against him. You don't bash a team who have own you w/o looking like an idiot.

Even if Ross is 3-9, there's 6 ABs he got out. Why would you hit a guy with 2 strikes with 2 outs? Of course Pelfrey did Ross a favor by giving him a base. Ross could have ended it there and just shrug it off but he chose to act like a child. Maybe someday he'll wake up and realize he's Cody Ross and not Albert Pujols.

apparently you havent seen the games against the brewers where they lucked out twice ben sheets got injured after 5 and they won last night because of an error, your team is probably the luckiest team ive ever seen.

btw, dont let the sweep of the brewers get to your head, alot of better teams have swept them.

So you are saying the mets havent gotten any lucky breaks?.they did luck out on other things like contributions, Nick Evans? Fernando Tatis? Endy Chavez? Damion Easley? Robinson Cancel? everyone else on that team lived up to par but the mets were fortunate enough to get quality ABs out of those no names.

Ill say it again, you do have a winning record against teams with winning records, but it doesnt mean much when the teams with winning records beat other bad teams too.

They won 97 games in 2006 and despite a horrific September were in the playoff hunt from April to August.

I don't think your personal experience in where? Miami? Is enough to judge a fan base. Of course after the Mets start winning you'll see bandwagon fans appear in other cities (see: Red Sox Nation post-2004).

i do live in Cape Coral/Fort Myers/Naples, i see alot of red sox fans most of the time.
