Hey Tom,
Thanks a lot. You beat us all the time when you were with the Braves. When you got here, you moaned and groaned with Leiter and Franco to get Bobby V out of town. He got replaced with the tool Art Howe (who didn't know D-Train was a lefty).
From when you got here to 2006, things were uneventful.
You had a good year in 2006 for us. You pitched great in the NLDS and game 1 of the NLCS. I will always remember those games because I was at them both. Then you sucked in Game 5 but I blamed Trachsel and the absence of hitting for losing that series.
This year you came back to win your 300th game with us. You could have gone to the Braves but god forbid you take a discount to win it with the team that taught you everything. In game 162, you had the biggest start of the season and possibly your Met career. You had 2 rough outings before but I believed in you. You were a HoF, an experienced vet. Every time you had 1 or 2 bad starts in a row you bounced back. You gave me faith this team would hang on.
How did you respond? You gave up 7 runs and recorded one out (a fielder's choice to boot). It was the worst start of your career and it came in one of the biggest starts.
You're likely going to decline your option. Maybe retire or crawl back and beg to the team you rejected because they didn't gie you the $$. Before you go Tom, just remember this. Remember it forever; when you announce your retirement or make your HoF speech.
THIS CHOKE'S ON YOU
When I go to Cooperstown and I see your plaque in 5 years, all I will think about is your start on September 30, 2007.
Thanks for the Memories, Tom.
