www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spmets1117aa,0,6599370.story The Mets' negotiations with Yorvit Torrealba collapsed on Saturday and the free-agent catcher will not be headed to Shea for next season after all. The two sides already had agreed on a three-year contract worth $14.4-million and it appeared that the only remaining holdup to an official announcement was a physical. But a person familiar with the situation said Saturday that the Torrealba deal was dead and the team confirmed it. "The Mets did not reach an agreement with Yorvit Torrealba," Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said, "and there are no current negotiations." Can this organization do ANYTHING RIGHT??

When I had posted that, the only source was Newsday, and they fabricated a quote from Julio Lugo last year, so... I doubt this burns the bridge with Lo Duca. I think he'd rather come back than turn the Mets down out of spite. He's their best FA option since Kendall and Barrett. They could trade for Ramon Hernandez but that's not happening b/c Baltimore wants a top prospect. However, they could put together a huge package for Erik Bedard and Ramon Hernandez (just my own idea).
