Reyes and Wright took 2 completely different paths during the second half of last season.
Reyes hit .251 and Wright hit .364
How do you guys think they'll perform this upcoming season?
Although Reyes hit just .280, he still managed to maintain the exact same OBP as he did in 2006 when he hit .300 (.354). Hes had 60+ SB's for 3 straight seasons and is probably the biggest running threat in the majors. However, Reyes seems to struggle mightily against right handed pitchers...last season, he hit .318 against lefties but just .266 against righties. I think he needs a lot more time to develop...he hit just .204 in the month of September last season...he clearly has a lot of talent, but he could still be dominated through his lack of experience.
As for Wright-I see him developing very rapidly. He's looking to be the best 30-30 guy in the league. One interesting note on his base stealing...he is probably the smartest base stealer in the league. Last season, he had 34 SB's in just 39 tries...and 3 out of those 5 CS's were on pickoffs. His career high in SB's went from 20 to 34 last season. The main reason for that was his walk total...he got walked 96 times...the most he ever got walked in a season before that was 72. Also, as a result of his walk total going up, his OBP went up as well to .416...Therefore, if Wright continues to show patience at the plate, he'll continue to get a lot of walks and SB's-and as always, the HR's will come...hes had 26+ HR's the past 3 seasons-so I wouldn't worry about his power.
