What do you guys think about this kid?
Last season he was 10-4 with a 3.87 ERA...
However, hes been really struggling in Spring Training...especially in his last 2 starts with a 16.43 ERA.
Manuel has a lot of faith in him and he's supposed to be the Phils #3 starter after Myers and Hamels...

Look at the loooooooooooooow strike out rate. Not good.
Not only that, but his minor league track record in terms of strike outs isn't good either, which doesn't give me a lot of faith that it will go up. Plus, if he actually believed he thought he could get traded to Japan, probably not the brightest crayon in the box out there on the mound either.

He went 10-4 with a 3.87 ERA...also, he'll get a lot of offensive support. Not only that, but from reading some quotes--this kid sounds very confident, and Charlie Manuel has a lot of faith in him. The fact that this kid has been absolutely terrible in his last 2 Spring Training starts and yet Charlie Manuel is still saying he's a lock for the rotation really means a lot...When your young and you get that kind of support from your coach, as well as offensive support from your offense--that could really help you a lot.

The K's matter. The cut off point for successful pitchers is 4.5 K/BB. If you meet or exceed that, you should do fine for a long time. If you don't you won't last long.

True-you DO need to get some K's to be successful...however, I believe his lack of K's last season were mostly because he was a rookie. He should develop and become more powerful...at least IMO. So far in ST he has 4 K's in 7.2 IP...very small sample size, and he has an ERA above 12 in those 7.2 innings--but his K rate should rise. I don't think he's going to be able to have a season like he did last year unless his K rate goes up...one or the other is gonna have to give. A large part of his success last season was the run support the Phils gave him...in 5 out of his 10 wins the Phils scored at least 9 runs. I don't think he's going to get THAT much run support this upcoming season--but being on the Phillies, he should get a good amount of run support, and that should lead to at least a little bit of success.

According to The Baseball Analysts,Kyle's K/TBF is a dismal 9.82%, but his GB % is decent at around 47%. This puts him in the company of some decent names among MLB pitchers, but he still needs to get his K rate up to be among the elite.

Of course, Padilla, Millwood and Silva are in the same quadrant with those guys.
