MILWAUKEE (AP) -- No hiding the quiet bats of Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell behind a win this time.
The Philadelphia Phillies' power hitters struggled at the plate again Saturday night, much as they did in the first two games of the NL division series. But with the Milwaukee Brewers beating the Phillies 4-1, their lack of offense was all the more glaring. Even with Howard going 2-for-4 and getting his first RBI of the postseason, the three are just 4-for-28 in the best-of-five series.
For those who don't have a calculator handy, that's a .143 average for the heart of the Phillies' lineup.
"We're supposed to hit, and when we don't, yeah, I'm concerned about it," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "But I don't know what you can do right now, especially this time of year. Actually, that's what the playoffs is all about. You don't have time to go into slumps or go bad or anything. You've got to be playing good.
"In order for us to go to the World Series, we've got to hit."
Hey a win is still a win. Phillies already won 2 games, they just need to win 1 more out of the 2 games. They still have 3/4 of the chance of taking the series.
