Cormier leaves game with shoulder pain By Guy Curtright / Special to MLB.com
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Lance Cormier, bidding for a spot in the Braves rotation, had to leave his start Monday against the Astros in the second inning because of shoulder stiffness. After Jason Lane reached on an error with two outs, the right-hander bent over on the mound and was checked out by assistant trainer Jim Lovell.
Manager Bobby Cox talked to Cormier before signaling to the bullpen.
Cormier was tied for the lead in the Grapefruit League with three victories and went into the game with a 1.29 ERA. The first five Astros were retired harmlessly before shortstop Chris Woodward booted Lane's grounder. Cormier threw 19 pitches, 11 for strikes.
