DODGERS 4, ORIOLES (ss) 2
at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Saturday, March 24
Dodgers at the plate: Juan Pierre singled in the first inning, stole second base and scored on one of two throwing errors by Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez. Andy La Roche singled in the fourth inning and scored on a hit by Wilson Valdez. Matt Kemp singled in that same rally and scored on Tony Abreu's double.
Orioles at the plate: Brian Roberts walked in the third inning, stole second and scored on Melvin Mora's two-out single. Hernandez and Jay Payton had back-to-back hits in the second inning. Payton doubled in Baltimore's second run in the sixth inning.
Dodgers on the mound: Randy Wolf was rarely challenged by the Orioles, pitching into the sixth inning and allowing five hits. The southpaw struck out seven batters and walked two. Chin-hui Tsao came on with one runner on in the sixth and allowed a two-out double to narrow the gap to one run. Tsao pitched a perfect seventh.
Orioles on the mound: Daniel Cabrera was victimized by four Baltimore errors, but he still worked through the sixth. The right-hander allowed eight hits and three runs, but only two of them were earned. Cabrera struck out four batters and didn't walk any. Reliever Scott Williamson pitched a perfect seventh inning.
Grapefruit League records: Dodgers 15-11; Orioles 11-11.
Coming up: The Orioles will travel to Jupiter on Sunday for a game against the Cardinals at 1:05 p.m. ET. Jaret Wright will get the ball for Baltimore, and he'll be matched against Anthony Reyes. Wright has eight strikeouts and six walks in 10 spring innings. Relievers Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker and Todd Williams are also expected to pitch.
The Dodgers return to Dodgertown on Sunday to take on the Indians at 10:05 a.m. PT.
