Congrats to Big Papi!
The funny thing is that he's called the cover "athlete"...lol yeah, he's quite an athlete...especially with his "minor" surgery this offseason.

March 13, 2008 - Humongous, Inc, announced today that four time MLB All-Star, David "Big Papi" Ortiz, has been named cover athlete for the next version of Backyard Baseball. Known as the most feared hitter in Baseball, Ortiz helped lead the Boston Red Sox to their second World Series title in four years and finished the 2007 season hitting .332 with 35 home runs and 117 RBIs. Ortiz is also an active philanthropist; supporting many charities including the David Ortiz Children's Fund, as well as a dedicated husband and father.
"It's exciting to be on the cover of my kids' favorite sports game," said Ortiz. "Our family loves Backyard Baseball because it's real baseball with a cool twist. The power ups and arcade action make it fun for us to play together."
Backyard Baseball 2009 will be released this spring on PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system and Windows PC and, for the first time, on Wii and Nintendo DS. The game combines authentic baseball gameplay with outrageous effects and scenarios and is best known for starring a roster full of current MLB pro athletes as animated kids.
"My children love playing with kid versions of the pros-it's especially fun to see me as an 11-year-old in the game," said Ortiz. "It brings back a lot of great memories of playing baseball as a kid."
The only kids' game series to hold the MLB and MLBPA licenses, Backyard Baseball 2009 features all 30 MLB teams, season play, and custom options along with host of new modes, unlockables, and surprises. Backyard Baseball is rated E for Everyone.
