OK new thing...Need more discussion on this board. Top 5 catchers - In 2011. Whodaya think? Joe Mauer (MIN) Matt Weiters (Georgia Tech) Chris Iannetta (COL) Brian McCann (ATL) Russell Martin (LAD) With Respect to... - Miguel Montero...(AZ)
- Jarrod Saltalamacchia...(ATL)
- Yadier Molina...(STL)
Mauer is obviously a stud. Weiters is a stud not known to everyone yet, switch hitting catcher with plus power out of Georgia Tech, will be a top 5 pick this upcoming draft. Iannetta is a plus defender with 20 HR power. I think McCann will regress a little, he'll still be good obviously, though his defense isn't very good. I like Martin too for 20 HR power, though not as good defense. Your top 5?

Do you think Molina will ever be a decent hitter? I gave him props because his defense is studly, I'm not sure his "O" will ever be very good though. Maybe a .250 and 15-20 HR type?

I think Mccan has the highest ceiling out of all these guys. Plus, he's still young.

Molina will end up hitting about .260 this year with about 10-15 homeruns. He's always been a clutch hitter, and a good RBI guy.
He plays year round and has been working very hard to become better offensively. I expect great things out of him.
His arm is the best in the MLB (I think he has passed Pudge). He can definitely call a game. His blocking skills are above average, but could improve. He's also very young (I think 24 now).

Molina will be overshadowed by guys like Mauer, McCann, and Martin. They are all very productive offensively and have above average defensive skills. Molina only excels in the latter.

Doubt he'll be top 5. He'll be lucky to make his MLB debut by 2011. He's only like 16 and hasn't even played a minor league inning. I also heard the Yankees were disappointed (to an extent) when they saw him in instructs.
