NEW YORK (AP) -- A Cleveland Indians minor leaguer was suspended 50 games Friday for violating baseball's minor league drug rules.
Juan Valdes, an outfielder for single-A Mahoning Valley of the New York-Penn League, tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Valdes is the 25th violation this year, the 22nd under the minor league program.
"We will continue to diligently educate our players at all levels about the ramifications and effects of using illicit substances," said Ross Atkins, Indians director of player development.
Valdes is on the disabled list with a left thumb sprain. The 22-year-old was hitting .319 (38-for-119) with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 34 games.
