DODGERS 6, MARLINS 2
at Jupiter, Fla.
Friday, March 23
Marlins at the plate: Florida began the first inning with back-to-back doubles. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, playing in his first game since Tuesday, led off with a drive in the gap, and Dan Uggla drove him in on the next pitch. After Miguel Cabrera moved Uggla to third on a ground ball to the right side, Mike Jacobs hit an RBI groundout to score Uggla and give the Marlins an early 2-0 lead. Florida did not have a hit the rest of the game.
Dodgers at the plate: Los Angeles sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring five runs against Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez. Pitcher Derek Lowe led off the fifth with a double to deep center field. After Wilson Valdez singled Lowe to third, Juan Pierre hit a sacrifice fly to score Lowe and make it a 2-1 game. Valdez, who stole his second base of the game, scored on Wilson Betemit's single to tie the game at 2. The next batter, Larry Bigbie, hit an RBI double to score Luis Gonzalez, who reached base via walk. Ramon Martinez followed with an RBI single. Matt Kemp added a solo home run in the ninth.
Marlins on the mound: Sanchez, who came into Friday's game with a 2-0 record and 1.46 ERA, allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits, three walks and struck out three in five innings of work. He threw 89 pitches, 49 for strikes. Renyel Pinto allowed one hit in the sixth, and Matt Lindstrom pitched a two-hit, scoreless seventh. Kevin Gregg pitched a perfect eighth, and Henry Owens allowed a home run and a single before striking out the next three batters in the ninth.
Dodgers on the mound: Lowe threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, two hits, one walk and striking out two. He threw 68 pitches, 45 for strikes. Righty Takashi Saito pitched a perfect seventh inning.
Grapefruit League records: Marlins 9-14-2; Dodgers 14-11-0.
Up next: Left-hander Scott Olsen will make his next-to-last Spring Training start for the Marlins at 1:05 p.m. ET on Saturday in Jupiter, Fla., against the Mets. Olsen, who will pitch the second game of the regular season April 2, goes up against Mets right-hander John Maine. Officials at Roger Dean Stadium expect another big crowd. At last Sunday's Cardinals-Mets game, the second-largest crowd in the stadium's history (8,393) was in attendance.
The Dodgers travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday for a 1:05 p.m. game with the Baltimore Orioles. Los Angeles will start left-hander Randy Wolf against the O's Daniel Cabrera.
