I thought he was going to be our starting CF'er this season...I guess he still needs more time. Our starting rotation is really struggling, but were not sending them down to the minors because were desperate for starting pitching. Maybin though--for some reason, has to be sent down to the minors even though were rebuilding. We don't have a lot of great options for CF--so even if Maybin struggles this season, it really wouldn't hurt us that much. Were not expecting to get a lot of production from CF anyways. I think it would be better for him to grow in the majors than in the minors...sure, he'll have growing pains-- but Andrew Miller and the rest of our young starting rotation will have them as well. I don't see why we need to send down Maybin but not Miller, Olsen, VandenHurk, Nolasco and Hendrickson. I'm sure we could find some cheap starting pitchers with at least a little more experience to take their place. I really don't see why there should be a difference...let Maybin stay!

Marlins optioned outfielder Cameron Maybin to Double-A Carolina.
The Marlins were true to their word about giving him a chance, but there was no reason to expect Maybin to be an asset this year. The move guarantees that Cody Ross will be the Marlins' Opening Day center fielder, but that's only because the team is facing left-hander Johan Santana. Alejandro De Aza might start against right-handers, or the team could send him down and resume giving Alfredo Amezaga time in center. The other alternative would be to trade for a stopgap. Jeremy Reed would make a lot of sense.
