Cincinnati's Gonzalez, Philadelphia's Utley named co-winners of the Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez, who slugged a National League-best 1.040, and Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, who led the N.L. with 10 RBI, have been named Bank of America Presents the National League Co-Players of the Week for April 23-29, 2007. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the company's long-standing tradition of recognizing achievements that inspire us all to seize opportunities to perform at our very best.
Gonzalez led the N.L. with 13 hits, three home runs and 26 total bases. Over the six-game span, Alex hit .520 (13-25), scored nine runs and collected six RBI. Utley, a 2006 National League All-Star, tied for second in the N.L. with 12 hits. Over the seven-game stretch, the left-handed hitting slugger hit .444 (12-27), slugged .778, had 21 total bases and scored seven runs.
