Biggio passes another great
By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle
By going 2-for-4 Tuesday night in the 6-1 victory over the Florida Marlins, Craig Biggio surpassed Hall of Famer Frank Robinson for 30th place on the career hits list.
With a single to left field in the third inning, Biggio tied Robinson at 2,943 hits. Biggio doubled in the eighth inning to take sole possession of 30th place and move within 56 hits of becoming the 27th player in major league history to collect 3,000.
"Frank, what do you say?" Biggio said. "It's just hard to believe."
Last week, Biggio surpassed Hall of Famer Honus Wagner for eighth place on the doubles list. Almost each week he passes a legend. Hall of Famer Willie Keeler (2,955 hits) is Biggio's next target.
"Everybody from here on out was an unbelievable player during their day," Biggio said. "And I truly am; I'm humbled by all this stuff. I don't know what to say. I'm trying to be creative. And I'm trying to wing it, but it's pretty cool stuff. I appreciate it and I respect it. I love it. These guys played the game the right way."
