Down 5? No sweat for the Astros. On to Milwaukee. SportsJustice A sports blog with Richard Justice April 19, 2007
Luke Scott is looking more and more like the real deal. He has taken that terrific second half of 2006 and kept building on it. He homered, doubled and drove in four runs Thursday night, and in his last 77 games, is hitting .327 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. In a lineup that has Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman, he could help transform a solid offense into a special one.
I'll bet that was a fun plane ride from Cincinnati to Milwaukee. Down by five runs, the Astros rallied to win 8-6. Phil Garner used 15 players, including four relievers who combined to throw three shutout innings. Jason Lane homered for a second straight night.
On a night when Woody Williams allowed six runs in six innings, the Astros still won for the eighth time in 10 games. These are the kinds of games good teams win.
Starting pitching leads a team, but the special teams also win some 10-8 and 9-6 games. All of a sudden, offense isn't a problem for the Astros. In truth, there aren't many worries of any kind. When things are going good, teams gain confidence and show up for work expecting to win. Big victories like this one can easily lead to more. Now comes one of the most interesting games of the young season as Matt Albers get the ball against Ben Sheets.
And...
• Brad Lidge has four straight scoreless appearances and has lowered his ERA from 16.20 to 5.79.
• Lance Berkman had his second multi-hit game of the season.
• At 8-6, the Astros trail the first-place Brewers by a half-game in the NL Central.
