Brewers' Weeks sent to DL with right wrist tendinitis

MILWAUKEE (AP) -Brewers manager Ned Yost told Rickie Weeks in batting practice on Wednesday to try and pull every pitch he saw to left field.
Weeks struggled to follow the simple instruction, and Yost told general manager Doug Melvin that his leadoff hitter would need an extended rest.
The Brewers put Weeks on the 15-day disabled list Thursday retroactive to Wednesday due to a sore right wrist that continues to hamper him because of scar tissue breaking up. They called up formerly disgruntled reliever Jose Capellan to take his spot on the roster.
"At this point of the season it's crazy having him battle,'' Yost said of Weeks, who is batting .243 with five homers and 16 RBIs. "Hopefully, he can go six weeks, eight weeks, before it starts getting sore again. We'll just have to see what happens. It's something that's going to be on and off all season long, probably.''
Weeks is scheduled to fly to Phoenix on Friday to be checked out by Dr. Don Sheridan, who performed season-ending surgery on Weeks' right wrist last year to fix a tendon that was snapping out of place. Weeks initially hurt himself wagging a bat in the dugout on July 25, but his swing also puts a lot of torque on his wrists and arms.
"It's a pretty good decision,'' Weeks said. "In hindsight, I didn't want to go do it, but it's probably the best thing for me right now.''
Weeks took it easy in the early part of spring training, and had been fine until a seven-game road trip earlier in May. He sat out the final game at Philadelphia on May 17 and the next series with the Minnesota Twins.
"We went into this thing knowing scar tissue is going to be there,'' Weeks said. "At this point, we thought if we got 15 days we'd try to get some of that stuff out of there.''
Capellan was not paid for two games he missed in Triple-A Nashville in April after he failed to show up to the park. Melvin had told his agent that he was working on trading Capellan, but that teams weren't offering enough in return.
The team had said the biggest factor in promoting Capellan would be his attitude, but it also turned out to be a lack of depth. The Brewers had pitched setup man Derrick Turnbow for four consecutive days this week.
Capellan had asked his agent to force a trade after he was demoted just before the Brewers' first game. The 26-year-old right-hander was 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA in 61 appearances for Milwaukee last season, but was left off the Brewers' 25-man roster at the end of spring training.
