Silva hits roadblock in loss to Pirates
Twins starter gives up nine runs in 3 1/3 innings

Twins at the plate: Justin Morneau delivered a two-run single in the third inning as part of a three-run inning for the Twins. Both Michael Cuddyer and Torii Hunter went 2-for-3 with a double and a single in the game.
Pirates at the plate: Brad Eldred blasted a two-run homer that sailed over the scoreboard in center field at Hammond Stadium, traveling approximately 500 feet. Adam LaRoche also added a two-run shot in the fourth as part of an eight-run inning for Pittsburgh.
Twins on the mound: Carlos Silva struggled mightily in his latest start, giving up nine runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. Silva's real troubles began in the fourth inning as he gave up seven runs on seven hits with one lone groundout. Left-hander Glen Perkins pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up one run on LaRoche's homer as he walked one and struck out three.
Pirates on the mound: Ian Snell pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out six.
Grapefruit League records: Twins 11-13-1; Pirates 10-14
Up next: The Twins will travel to Clearwater to take on the Phillies in a 12:05 p.m. CT game on Sunday. Right-hander Ramon Ortiz will get the start for Minnesota as he faces Philadelphia southpaw Cole Hamels. The Pirates will head back to Bradenton to host the Devil Rays on Sunday in a 12:05 p.m. CT contest. Pirates left-hander Tom Gorzelanny is expected to start against Tampa Bay right-hander Jae Seo.
