The Mets won't let Marlon Anderson get away this time.
Anderson, who left to sign with the Nationals two winters ago when the Mets wouldn't offer a two-year contract, is expected to return to Flushing next season, the Daily News has learned. Terms weren't available, but it seems reasonable to expect some provision for 2009 is included. The deal won't be announced until Anderson completes a physical.
Anderson, 33, rejoined the Mets in mid-July after being released by the Dodgers. The super-sub hit .319 with three homers and 25 RBI in 69 at-bats in 43 games - Willie Randolph used him in all three outfield spots and at first base. Among his biggest hits: a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning off San Diego closer Trevor Hoffman in what became a 7-6 win on Aug.21, and a three-run, pinch-hit double in the ninth inning at Florida on Sept.20 that gave the Mets a 6-4 lead.
Anderson's 14 pinch-hits ranked fourth in the NL, despite his infrequent use as a Dodger during the first half. His 14 pinch-RBI ranked second in the league, behind only Philadelphia's Greg Dobbs (17).
The Mets have also re-signed Damion Easley and picked up a $7.5 million option on Moises Alou.
BRAVE OLD WORLD? Tom Glavine's agent has indicated the 303-game winner has resolved to pitch in '08. Signs have pointed to Atlanta as Glavine's most likely landing spot.

This is great news. Marlon is one of the most clutch pinch hitters in the game today.
