1) Trade Carlos Delgado for Dallas McPherson Delgado sucks now. Angels would take him since they have no power besides Guerrero. They have infield prospects up the wazoo. MchPherson is young and could be much more useful than Delgado at 1B.
2) Trade for Bengie Molina It would probably cost a few B-level OF prospects since he'd be a salary dump. He's a good defensive catcher with a pretty good bat.
3) Sign Jose Molina as back-up catcher Castro is an awesome back up. However, he didn't throw anyone out this year and has broken down late into the season for 2nd straight time. You need a back up catcher who is healthy all season long and very good defensively.
4) Trade for Johan Santana Much easier said than done, but this is the guy the Mets need. It would take a lot but they need him. They need pitching because it sucked this year. Bum pitchers like Carlos Silva and Livan Hernandez won't cut it; they need an ace. Pedro's health is too much of a liability to depend on him. Perez and Maine are far too inconsistent to ever be a dominant ace.
To acquire him, you need to get a 3rd team involved. The perfect one is the Rangers. They are desperate enough and dumb enough to do it. Here's what I'd do:
Mets get: Johan Santana (MIN)
Twins get: Hank Blalock (TEX), Jason Botts (TEX), Lastings Milledge (NYM), and $5M (NYM)
Rangers get: Philip Humber (NYM) and Aaron Heilman (NYM)
Mets get the dominant ace they need. Twins get a 3B in Blalock (he is expendable b/c the Rangers have Metcalf. The Twins would be willing to take a chance on him). Botts is a good hitter but very poor fielder. Rangers can't find a position for him, Twins need a DH desperately. Rangers are VERY thin in pitching. Humber is expendable b/c of the success of Mulvey, Rangers might want Humber because he's a Texan (if not the Mets could trade Mulvey). Mets want to dump Heilman before he leaves and he is a pretty good pitcher, he just hates his role with the Mets.
To sum it up: Mets get an ace, Twins get hitting (and money), and Rangers get pitching. Win-Win-Win.

If the Mets could pull that trade off then they would be the luckiest team in the league. I think they might have to give up Pelfry along with those guys

They won't give up on Pelfrey. I would throw in some lower-level pitching prospects like Adam Bostick. I'm not very familiar with many of them though so I didn't include any.

He's a lefty they got from Florida last year. He hid injuries early in the AAA season then had a scoreless streak going. He pitched in the AFL and had 18 K's in 19 innings and an ERA around 1. He walked 12 but didn't give up many hits (had a 1.26 WHIP total).

i'm just hesitant about liking a trade for johan b/c he's a free agent after this season...they should trade for oswalt or kazmir Omar's thing is big signings. He'll be able to sign Santana to a big deal whether it's during the season or in the 10-days after the season is over. He doesn't need to test the market to get a new deal from the Mets. They can give him $18-20M a year for 6-7 years b/c of the new stadium. As for Oswalt, he's not going anywhere because he's making nothing by the current market. Kazmir is still with Tampa Bay for 3 years. However, if he and the Rays can't work a deal in arbitration and he becomes a free agent, the first place he comes will be to the Mets. He hates Tampa Bay (which is the reason why they are considering trading him) and wants to go back to the Mets. LOL at that trade proposal for Santana, my god that is one sided if there ever was such a thing. No, it's not. The deal is pretty fair. The Rangers will take anyone who can throw given how awful their pitching is (worst in baseball). Humber and Heilman are both talented and would be an upgrade over anything the Rangers currently have. Twins are the opposite. They are loaded with young pitching but have no one capable of hitting. Blalock, Botts, and Milledge would be a huge upgrade over Punto, the pathetic DH committee, and the laughable LF platoon they had this year. kamzir for zambrano was the most one sided trade everNope. Tom Seaver to the Reds for Pat Zachry, Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson, and Dan Norman was.
