“Shelley made a hard, aggressive slide and I would have to took at the replay to determine exactly what I think,” Joe Girardi said. “I will have to look to see how high it was. Some players are taught to try and break it up, like Shelley was. He went after his glove with his feet.”
Go after the glove with your feet? That’s a new one. The Yankees should try and sign Ronaldinho.
Then there’s Tampa Bay manager. Here’s what he said:
“What we saw today is the definition of a dirty play. There’s no room for that in our game. It’s contemptible, it’s wrong, it’s borderline criminal. I can’t believe that did that.”
Borderline criminal? Calm down, Joe.

It was a high slide, but saying "borderline criminal" is stupid.

Duncan is a shit player and now a shit person. Going in spikes first, especially that high, IS borderline criminal. He deserves a heater right in the cabeza.

Shelly Duncan is loved by Yankee fans, for his crazy quotes and hard play. It seems that Girardi doesn't have any problem with it...its just payback for a TB player breaking out catcher's arm. It may be dirty, but that's just how Shelly plays.

It may be dirty, but that's just how Shelly plays. You don't play dirty. When you do, you're begging to be hit. Joe Girardi is a hypocrite. He gets all pissy about a catcher being railroaded in a legit play but is completely ambivalent when Duncan clearly tries to spike Iwamura. Spiking a guy isn't a hard play, it's a dirty play and you don't do that in baseball. I can't wait until Scott Kazmir puts him on his ass or a Ray steps on his foot running to 1st. Duncan has no business on a major league roster anyway.

I don't think Girardi had anything to do with the incident. Girardi is the type of manager that stays to himself and doesn't even argue a lot of bad calls because he doesn't like his team feeling like they got ripped off. When he managed the Marlins last season he always just stayed in the dugout and managed...he never let anything get to him. It's almost like he was scared of getting kicked out...he couldn't even go to the ump on clearly wrong calls because he knows it wouldn't accomplish anything.
I think Duncan came up with the idea all himself. It was definitely very obvious that he was planning on doing that when he was rounding first base...I guess he just feels superior being on the Yankees and the Yanks loved him last season for the way he performed...but that was just low. If A-Rod did it then I'd say to still keep him...but when you have a team full of a bunch of All-Stars and this one newbie makes an idiotic move-you gotta take action. For All-Star type players we can make exceptions...but not for Shelly Duncan.
