Who are some of the breakout players this year in the big leagues? Guys that like always had the ability (or even didn't) that have really taken a step forward this year.
For the Royals it's definitely Gil Meche. Always had nasty stuff but he's really commanding the ball better than he ever has right now. I think he's 2nd in ERA in the AL right now.

Yea I saw that about Hermida. He has a ton of ability but it sucks he has been injured a lot.

I'd say Josh Hamilton just because he's playing, and not that bad after all his troubles. Also, Brandon Phillips is really starting to come alive

Dukes doesn't really count...this is his first big league year. I'm talking guys that have been in the league a year or three (or 6 in Meche's case) and they are finally showing some signs of being a really good player.
I should mention John Buck too, highest OPS of all catchers right now after 3 years of being in the bigs. Was a damn good prospect that was in the Beltran deal...that trade is looking pretty good with Teahen and Buck both playing well.

J.J. Hardy is playing unbelievable, but I don't think it'll last for much longer.

J.J. Hardy, B.J. Upton, Jhonny Peralta, Gil Meche, Wandy Rodriguez, James Shields, Claudio Vargas, Rich Hill.
Before the season I predicted Daniel Cabrera and Nick Markakis as my "Oriole breakouts", as you can tell in my sig. Adam Loewen would have been included in that list too if he hadn't gotten hurt.

I think Oliver Perez will break out and have a season similar to 2004. If you've seen his last few starts you'd agree with me. He's really only had 2 bad ones. The one against Philly where he couldn't throw a strike and in San Francisco where the defense was non-existent.
