Breaking News: Jake Peavy has a 9.39 ERA this Spring Training in 5 starts.
But still--Peavy is going to be a dominant pitcher once again this season...no doubt. However, you gotta expect Johan Santana to put up even better stats...the main thing against Johan Santana is that hes switched leagues. Yes, hes switched leagues to the NL, where theres less offense--but the unfamiliarity should bother him at least a bit at the beginning.

Awww, you know the deal about ST stats... he'll get it together.
Santana will be the guy Peavy challenges in the Cy race each of the next few years. Throw in Arizona's Brandon Webb here and there, too. I do think that if Peavy masters the change, we will be the best pitcher in baseball, bar none. Heck, Webb dominates with only one true pitch (naturally sinking fastball), and he's always a Cy candidate. Guys with command of multiple pitches give hitters a lot more to think about. Santana is in that class, Peavy is right there, too. The arsenal, the command, the movement... good luck getting a piece of what they're serving.

I do know he'll get better, but Johan Santana is still better. I think your forgetting Peavy's 2006 season when he went 11-14 with a 4.09 ERA. Yes, he had great seasons in 2004 and 2005, but Peavy doesn't seem to be nearly as reliable as Santana. Before last season, Peavy never had more than 15 wins in a season also...Last season was by far the best season of his career thus far. He'll probably get better, but don't completely count out a fall back to a little bit of his 2006 form. He's still young, and as hes shown this Spring Training--he could still struggle. Santana on the other hand is a beast...the thing that most impresses me about him is that he could really turn it out whenever he wants. That's why hes always been nearly unbeatable in the second half his career...He's 50-17 with a 2.79 ERA in the second half of the season in his career. I think he's clearly a lot better than Peavy, and will probably win all those awards this upcoming season...

I think Peavy has turned the corner. We'll see. Santana is surely great.
