Cardinals at the plate: Nick Stavinoha drove in the game-winning run with a double off Ryan Wagner in the 10th inning. St. Louis scored its first two runs in the first inning. Albert Pujols doubled home a run, while Preston Wilson's ground out sent Skip Schumaker home.
Nationals at the plate: Ryan Zimmerman singled to drive in Cristian Guzman in the first. Washington tied the score at 2 in the fourth inning when Guzman singled to left to send home Jesus Flores.
Cardinals on the mound: Right-hander Kip Wells pitched five innings and gave up two runs on two hits. He struck out six batters and walked two others.
Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Shawn Hill pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up two unearned runs.
Grapefruit League records: Cardinals 12-9-1; Nationals 10-12-1.
Up next: The Cardinals return to Jupiter, Fla., to face the Orioles on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 ET. St. Louis right-hander Anthony Reyes will face Baltimore right-hander Jaret Wright.
The Nationals travel to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to play the Braves at 1:05 p.m. Washington left-hander Matt Chico will face Atlanta left-hander Chuck James. Chico is making his fifth Grapefruit League and has pitched eight shutout innings over his last two outings.
