sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2880887I won't post the article but here's the list. 1) Barry Zito, SFG SP 2) J.D. Drew, BOS RF 3) Andruw Jones, ATL CF 4) Juan Pierre, LAD CF 5) Bobby Abreu, NYY RF 6) Brian Giles, SD RF 7) Alfonso Soriano, CHC OF 8) Richie Sexson, SEA 1B 9) Bob Wickman, ATL RP 10) Jeff Suppan, MIL SP sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=28823881) Roy Oswalt, HOU SP 2) Trevor Hoffman, SD RP 3) Hanley Ramirez, FLA SS 4) Jake Peavy, SD SP 5) C.C. Sabathia, CLE SP 6) Carl Crawford, TB LF 7) Placido Polanco, DET 2B 8) Kevin Youkilis, BOS 1B/3B 9) Joe Nathan, MIN RP 10) Travis Hafner, CLE 1B/DH I agree with his overrated list but I disagree with his underrated list. Oswalt, Peavy, Sabathia, Crawford, Nathan, and Hafner all get the accolades they deserve. They may not be on ESPN's highlights every night unless they are playing the Yankees or Red Sox. None of this is the gospel obviously. I personally take it with a grain of salt because this is coming from a guy who thinks Sandy Koufax was overrated.

How Ichiro does not appear on the "overrated" list is beyond me.

How Ichiro does not appear on the "overrated" list is beyond me. seriously??!?!....no, your right...he only holds the single season record for hits, hits over .330 every year and has the 2nd most hits in his 1st 1000 games of all time, but yea, he's overrated....

*david wright and rafual furcal just barely not make the list same thing for dontrelle willis, he is supposed to be a team ace/leader on the pitching staff.

How the heck is Oswalt on that list? Everybody knows about him. Atleast I hope.

Ichiro the last two years (05 and 06): OPS: .786, .786 OBP: .350, .370 SLG: .436, .416 The OBP is good, but he hits for very little power. I understand that hitting alot of home runs and doubles is not something that Ichiro typically does, but that has to happen if you're going to be one of the league's better players, unless you get on base as much as the 02 or 04 Ichiro did. So basically, he gets on base at a very good but unspectacular rate, and hits for very little power. He is a good player, but not outstanding.

*david wright and rafual furcal just barely not make the list same thing for dontrelle willis, he is supposed to be a team ace/leader on the pitching staff. I don't think anyone overrates write, I know I don't. He's a good gap-hitter and makes some nice dives. His biggest flaw is when a power surge (like last weekend) goes to his head and his accuracy in throwing to first. I think Furcal has become underrated because of new SS like Reyes and Ramirez. If I were building a team to win one World Series that season, I'd take him over Ramirez and Reyes as my SS. Dontrelle's reputation has become better than he is. He needs a change of scenery, IMO. I don't think he's experience enough to hold the responsibility of carrying the Marlins' staff. seriously??!?!....no, your right...he only holds the single season record for hits, hits over .330 every year and has the 2nd most hits in his 1st 1000 games of all time, but yea, he's overrated.... His batting may be overrated but he is a great fielder and that is something most people don't notice when they look at stats.

I saw and read this through the Atlanta Braves forum on their official website..
Sad to see two Atlanta Braves on the over rated list.. I guess I can't argue for Andruw though, especially with the way he's been swinging the bat.
Wickman though, he's only blown three saves since coming over to us in a trade before the deadline last year. He's been pretty steady, wouldn't say he's over rated, wouldn't say he's under rated.. He really doesn't get talked about all that much.. Didn't understand how he was on that list.

Hanley is underrated because he's overshadowed by the other SS's like Reyes and Rollins and even Renteria.

The year he lead the majors in homers he had a .267 average. Wickman has had a terrible WHIP (almost 2) and ERA (3.14) for a closer.

BA is not the stat that matters...OBP and OPS are the stats that matter. The year that Jones hit 51 HR's, his average may have been low, but what really matters is the rate at which a player reaches base. Jones' OBP that year was .347, a very solid number.
