The Rangers are still trying to work out a contract extension with hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. If that doesn't work out, the Rangers may look to Don Mattingly, who spent three years as the Yankees hitting coach before becoming their bench coach last season.
Mattingly was a candidate to replace Joe Torre as the Yankees manager, but Joe Girardi is expected to get that job. Mattingly is not expected to return to the Yankees.
Other candidates include Kevin Long, who was the Yankees hitting coach this year, and former Oakland hitting coach Thad Bosley. The Rangers' priority is to sign Jaramillo.
"We'd like to have Rudy back," Daniels said. "We made what we consider a very appropriate offer and haven't had a whole lot of dialogue."

Assuming he doesn't follow Torre to LA, I'd love it. Micheal Young said Matty was one of his favorite players growing up
