Rangers sign Madrigal: The Rangers have signed Minor League free-agent pitcher Warner Madrigal to a contract and added him to their 40-man roster. Madrigal pitched for Class A Cedar Rapids in the Angels organization, going 5-4 with a 2.07 ERA and 20 saves. He struck out 75 batters in 61 innings and held opponents to a .202 batting average. It was his first full season as a professional pitcher. The Angels signed him in 2001 out of the Dominican Republic as an outfielder and then converted him to a pitcher late in the 2006 season. "Our scouts really like him," Daniels said. "His fastball is 93-96 mph. He has a hard slider and he really pounds the strike zone. He was someone we might have considered taking in the Rule 5 Draft, but we were able to sign him and he still has options left." Madrigal was declared a Minor League free agent on Oct. 29. The Angels announced on Nov. 6 that they were putting him on their 40-man roster, but it was past the deadline and the Rangers moved quickly to sign him. link: texas.rangers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071118&content_id=2303095&vkey=news_tex&fext=.jsp&c_id=tex
