DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Shaun Marcum pitched two scoreless innings Monday as the Toronto Blue Jays the Cleveland Indians 6-1.
Marcum gave up one hit and struck out two.
"He's not an overpowering guy," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "But he can look overpowering in so many different ways. He's ahead of the game."
Alex Rios and Marco Scutaro each doubled and singled for the Blue Jays.
Fausto Carmona, a 19-game winner last season, allowed two runs and five hits in 1 2-3 innings. He threw 47 pitches, walking one and striking out one.
"I was just overthrowing," Carmona said through his interpreter, bullpen coach Dennis Malava. "It's my first time out and it's a long process."
David Dellucci hit a home run for the Indians off John Parrish.
Notes: Blue Jays RHP A.J. Burnett doesn't think the broken nail on his right index finger is much of a problem. "I usually don't start throwing curveballs until my fourth or fifth start," he said... . Indians 2B Josh Barfield didn't mind the bus trip over from Winter Haven. Growing up, he played on the fields at Dunedin while his father, Jesse, was a star for the Blue Jays. "It's always fun to come back here, a lot of good memories. When we pulled up in the bus I remembered it from coming here with my dad. It hasn't changed too much," he said.
