Sportsnet.ca -- The Blue Jays have signed former all-star closer Armando Benitez to a minor league deal, but it might come at the expense of bullpen arm Casey Janssen.
Benitez, who has 289 career saves with the Orioles, Mets, Mariners, Marlins and Giants worked out for the Jays on Tuesday. The team has signed him to a minor league contract, pending a physical, and if all goes well he'll start working out with the team on Thursday. The former all-star is not in Toronto to close or act as a setup man, but is just another quality arm in the bullpen.
For the Jays, the timing couldn't be better. Casey Janssen was complaining about a tight/sore shoulder and his simulated game at the minor league complex was cut short.
