Ryan Howard, showing signs of coming out of his month-long slump, knocked in 2 runs with a double and a home run and the red hot Pat Burrell kicked in another RBI as the Phils took the series two games to one by a score of 3-2 vaulting them into first place in National League East, .5 game over the idle Mets and the Florida Marlins who fell to the Dodgers today, 5-3. Adam Eaton pitched 6 innings allowing both runs on a 2-run 1st inning homer for the second straight game from Adrian Gonzalez. Eaton walked two and struck out two in scattering 5 hits over his 6 innings. The Padres wasted a nice return engagement by Randy Wolf who went 6 innings walking 3, striking out nine and allowing 2 earned runs before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the 7th. Joe Thatcher (0-3) took the loss for San Diego, while Tom Gordon (3-2) got the win and Brad Lidge saved his 7th in as many tries. Phils welcomethe San Francisco Giants to CBP tomorrow at 7:05.
