Hank Steinbrenner wants to re-sign Cashman

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner said he wants to re-sign general manager Brian Cashman, whose current three-year deal ends after this season.

"I've been thinking about it for a while," Steinbrenner said Friday night after watching the Class-A Tampa Yankees play Palm Beach.

Steinbrenner spent time with Cashman this week during the 2008 baseball amateur draft, and said the GM is interested in staying with the team.

"Certainly I would like him to stay," Steinbrenner said. "Either he decides to stay or he doesn't."

Steinbrenner said is no timetable for when a deal might be completed.

I love what Brians done the last few years since he received complete control of the organizations roster moves...he's put a lot of money into scouting, especially international scouting...you've gotta keep him on board.

Chase Wright, Tyler Clippard, and Jeff Karstens were minor leaguers called up to fill spots.. Humberto was injured, Cory Lidle is well, you know that...Kevin Brown wasn't his singing, but yes, Randy, Pavano, and Wright sucked...still you can't deny the success he's had in rebuilding the farm system.

Honestly you don't need to be all that smart to be the Yanks GM. Just give the GM and player development people money and you'll be fine.

And no I'm not just talking payroll, it's also in the draft and in Latin America. They spend more than any team in every facet.

Wright, Clippard, and Karstens showed the poor pitching depth. Sanchez had injury problems before Cashman acquired him. Lidle wasn't a good pitcher before he was acquired

Cashman has done some good things in the past.
Just I think he's time to cut him loose. I really think Hank needs to give the business over to Hal.
That’s another story. Let's get somebody in they're new. Since They got rid of Torre, Cashman is getting a lot of flack for the team.

DUH the Yankees have more money than any other team, they're rocking it at home games. A good percent of them sold out.
They can afford anyone they want, I mean look at A-Rod's lovely move during the off season, they're was one other team that could of
afford him. I hate that man!
