PITTSBURGH - After going 22 days between save opportunities, closer Brandon Lyon has recorded back to back saves this series, pitching around Pirates baserunners both nights but coming away unscathed.
His results kept alive an impressive streak: 22 consecutive scoreless innings.
The most recent run Lyon allowed came when Colorado's Matt Holliday hit an opposite-field solo home run April 6. That was Lyon's second consecutive blown save. He is 13 for 13 in save chances since.
The Pirates had two men aboard Friday night, but Lyon got Jack Wilson to pop out to preserve a 3-1 victory. On Saturday, he got help from catcher Chris Snyder, who threw out pinch-runner Luis Rivas for the second out of the inning.
"I had to battle these last couple of days, just trying to make quality strikes and not make any mistakes," Lyon said. "Fortunately, Snyder had a big hit and also a big throw."
Lyon said he isn't thinking about his scoreless streak.
"I just try to go out there and put up a zero," he said. "Just try to get the first out, the second out and then the third. That's how I'm going out there, just trying to get my team off the field with a win."
