ST. LOUIS -- Wow, some actual emotion postgame. There's a legitimate feud between two of the best players for each team.

Brandon Phillips was upset with Albert Pujols for the 5th inning double play attempt. Phillips said Pujols took a jab step inside to get in the way of his throw and that it should have been interference. The play led to all four runs in the fifht inning. Another missed shot at a double play in the sixth led to five more.

"I respect him as a player and as a person, but he came in standing up and that jjust shows me he doesn't respect me turning a double play," Phillips said. "He tried to hurt me. You don't do that. It taught me a lesson. Lesson learned."

"He did his job, next time I'll do mine," Phillips said. "I'll just throw it through the (m.f.)."


"I think it was interference because he didn't slide," Phillips said. "I wish there was another double play."

"Next time he better get his ass down," Phillips said.

Phillips said he tried to talk to Pujols about it, but Pujols brushed him off.

Pujols responded that Phillips told him that the next time he was going to throw at his head, Pujols said to go ahead.

"That's the way I play the game, I play it hard," Pujols said. "He's the one who didn't make an adjustment. He didn't get out of the way."

When told that Phillips said that the next time he would throw at him and make him get down, Pujols said: "Next time I'll put him in left field, so get out of the way."

Reds interim manager Pete Mackanin said he learned his lesson early as a middle infielder that you throw through the runner and make him get down.

"I don't know if Pujols intentionally stood up, I don't know if he tried to disrupt the throw," Mackanin said. "It's up the second baseman or shortstop to throw at his head to force him to slide. That's why Manny Trillo threw sidearm, so you had to get down."

Pete said one time he threw at a guy and it bounced off his helmet and past the first baseman, allowing the runs to score, but you've got to throw through the runner and force them down.

I think the hard slides into 2nd need to stop all together. Someone is going to get hurt. In fact Marcus Giles already did. I've seen the Yankees do that a lot especially. If guys are going to get away with that, they the umps should be more tolerant of hit batsmen and give the pitchers high and inside corner.

But next time Brandon Phillips sees Pujos coming in, just throw it right at him. He deserves it for copping out of the ASG.

I don't mind the hard slides. It is how the game has been played since the beginning. It's one of the few things that keeps this sport considered "tough." The players are just playing hard. No harm in that IMO.

As for your second comment, you are being a whiny little kid. "He deserves it for copping out of the ASG." What the hell does that mean? First of all, the ASG was a long time ago. Has absolutely nothing to do with the game yesterday. Second of all, he didn't even cop out. That was a completely fabricated rumor started by you dumbsh*ts on the east coast who can't find good stories, so you start rumors like that. I gave you the link of the story that denied your rumor.

Get over it already. Pujols said something bad about your man-crush Tommy Glavine. Who cares? It was a comment during a heated playoff series, after a frustrating game. Now every time anything, good or bad, comes up about Pujols, you bring crap like that up. Find something more clever to say next time.

Pitching inside and hitting guys was part of the game as well. If they condone that, hard slides should be as well.


Remove your lips from Pujols' rear end. The guy wasn't even in uniform in the 9th inning of the ASG. I don't care if it was 1 day, 1 year, or 10 years ago. It doesn't change the fact that he copped out. If it was a rumor, why hasn't he denied it and all other players on the Nat'l team confirm it?

As for his comments about Glavine, they were stupid and he should keep his mouth shut the next time he gets owned. Not even A-Rod has said an opposing pitcher wasn't good if he went 0fer in the day, and A-Rod is one of the biggest phonies in baseball. Pujols is a phoney.

I don't really hate him. I just don't like him because he can be awful at times, he helped Leiter and Franco get Bobby Valentine fired, and he's a Brave. I hate Steve Trachsel and if he pitched a gem against the Cards and Pujols said that, I would still bash Pujols. If a guy beats you and you are one of the best hitters in the game, tip your cap and shut your mouth.

And keep in mind, Phillips is never really mad at all. He is almost always smiling or laughing, so he must have been really ticked off.
