MIAMI -- Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla left Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks in the fourth inning after injuring his left ankle.
Uggla singled to left field in the bottom of the fourth, but as he rounded first base and tried to stop on a dime to go back to the bag, Uggla pulled up lame and was tagged out easily. He limped back toward the dugout under his own power.
The injury was described as a sprain and X-rays were negative.
Robert Andino took Uggla's place at second base to start the fifth with the Marlins leading, 1-0.
Losing Uggla would be a huge blow to the Marlins' offense. Entering Saturday, the 28-year-old was leading the Major Leagues in home runs with 23.
