Nunez seems terrible, Gonzalez was alright but we got Jeter. Trade will help NATS and neither hurt nor help us IMO.
The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Jhonny Nunez from the Washington Nationals in exchange for infielder Alberto Gonzalez.
Nunez, 22, appeared in 26 games (17 starts) combined with Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg, going 2-8 with a 4.85 ERA (97H, 52R, 48ER, 27BB and 90K) while holding opponents to a .278 batting average. In nine relief appearances this season, he has allowed only two runs in 9.0 innings pitched with a .233 opponents' batting average. A native of the Dominican Republic, Nunez was originally signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent in 2003. He was acquired by the Nationals on Aug. 31, 2006, in exchange for outfielder Marlon Anderson.
Gonzalez, 25, made three stints with the Yankees in 2008, batting .173 (9-for-52) with two doubles and one RBI in 28 games. He batted .250 (47-for-188) with eight doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. In 2007, he led all Triple-A shortstops with a .976 fielding percentage.
