Hank said he'd do anything to get the Yankees winning again, like getting a veteran ace...CC Sabathia, anyone? Also, Bobby Abreu's contract expires, as does Pudge Rodriguez. CC was obvious...the yankees will sign him for 6 years, $2.92 billion per year

yea, but think, if the mets had k-rod this year instead of wagner, they'd be up on the phillies by 7 and 1/2 games, instead of 1 and 1/2 And if the Mets had Albert Pujols they'd be up more games over the Phillies. K-Rod would make them better but he's not worth the money. Their real weakness is from the 6th-8th innings. The Mets don't like Schoeneweis anymore. Heilman is done. Sanchez's fastball can't hit 90mph. Smith and Feliciano are one-out guys. So long as Wagner does not go under the knife, they won't sign a closer. ayala is a good MR and i think smith can giv u a good inning consistently

The Reds' owner gave Jocketty permission to spend a lot of money in the offseason with the payroll being low, and he still think they can win. Whether this is true or not, they can still get some good players for now and the future out of it. I doubt they land someone like Sabathia or Teixiera, but I could imagine them getting at least one of guys like Lowe, Burnett, Perez, Cameron, Crede, Blalock, etc. This is what I'd like to happen: C: Tatum/Castillo/Barrett(FA) 1B: Votto(Give occasional LF start) 2B: Phillips SS: Keppinger/Gonzalez 3B: Encarnacion LF: Dickerson/Stubbs/Cumberland/Owings? (possible trade) CF: Cameron RF: Bruce SP: Volquez SP: Harang SP: Perez SP: Cueto SP: Bailey/Owings/Massett/Thompson/Maloney Use Arroyo, Freel, Encarnacion, specs as possible trade bait for starter and/or OF Like I said, probably not a winning ballclub, but in the future, it looks pretty good with a lot of depth. In '10 it'd be: C: Same 1B: Alonso 2B: Phillips SS: Youngster/Kepp 3B: EE/Francisco LF: Votto CF: Stubbs/Cameron RF: Bruce

harang is rallying them to move the fence back, and we desperately need a lefty 1 pitcher wanting them to move the fence back isnt gonna do anything and thats true about the lefty, but in that ballpark, perez isnt your solution

Perez is going to be expensive and he's a big time flyball pitcher.

I know. I'm pretty sure the team will make some adjustments, I know he's only one guy, but he's still their ace, and they've been talking out doing it for a long time. The least they could do is make the right field fence a little higher, which Harang says will make 20-30 less homers.
And I know he'll ask for more than he's worth, but he just seems like a guy the Reds will get. I'd rather them get Lowe or Burnett, even with the cost, but I was basing that off of realistic expectations

Burnett is another big time fly ball pitcher. Reds would do best to avoid both of them.

OK, here's an actual quick mock, what do you think about this one:
-Acquire Willy Taveras from the Rockies for some mid-level prospects -Trade Bronson Arroyo and Jeff Keppinger to the Rangers for Salty or Laird(whoever's available) -Sign Hank Blalock -Sign Derek Lowe
C: Salty 1B: Encarnacion 2B:Phillips SS:Gonzalez 3B:Blalock LF:Votto(maybe EE if he can make the switch better) CF: Tavares/Dickerson/Stubbs RF:Bruce
SP: Volquez SP:Lowe SP:Harang SP:Cueto SP:Bailey/Maloney/Owings/Massett/etc.
I know it's extremely far fetched- I know those 2 would be expensive and I'm not sure the Rangers would do that with the salary they'd be taking on.

i still think that the mets will end up with perez...even if he ends up testing FA b/c of boras, i think the mets will get him in the end...or at least i really hope they do...perez is my favorite pitcher, idk why, he just always has been since his days on the pirates

Perez should be a target for KC. He'd be similar to Gil Meche. The KC pitching coach improved Meche's command and now he's a pretty solid pitcher. I believe if he could do the same with Perez, he'd be a dynamite starter especially with the help of KC's big outfield. I know we have the money to make one big name signing. I won't include him in my scenario though.
I like Pat Burrell too, we need right handed power and a guy who can really get on base. Signing him would be huge. I'd try to trade Jose Guillen to someone and shed some salary (dunno is this is possible), and then try and get Josh Willingham since teh Marlins are cheap and might try to trade him. Then I'd sign Kevin Mench to a cheap deal as a occasional DH or OF against lefties and a power bat off the bench. Sign a reliever like Will Ohman to round out the bullpen.
CF David DeJesus SS Mike Aviles 3B Alex Gordon LF Pat Burrell RF Josh Willingham DH Billy Butler 1B Kila Kaaihue (.320/.462/.635, 35 HR between AA and AAA, just 24 years old) C Miguel Olivo or John Buck 2B Alberto Callaspo
SP: Zack Attack, Gil Meche, Luke Hochevar, Carlos Rosa, Brian Bannister/Kyle Davies/Daniel Cortes RP: Joakim Soria, Ron Mahay, Ramon Ramirez, Leo Nunez, Robinson Tejeda, Will Ohman
All that would add about 10 million to payroll after losing players to free agency (Mark Grudz, couple others) and adding free agents.
Dunno if it's too realistic, but it'd be pretty cool.
