NEW YORK (AP) -- Major League Baseball set a record for total attendance and is on track to break its mark for average attendance.

With one week left in the regular season, major league teams drew 76,215,082, the commissioner's office said Monday, topping last year's 76,042,787.

The average of 32,710 was up 4 percent from last year's final average of 31,423 and on pace to top the record of 31,632 set in 1994 before a strike interrupted the season.

This has to do with the close division race this year. Mets still haven't clinch their division unlike when last year they had a 10 games lead from the Phillies. And the Yankees are making an intresting story in the AL East chasing the Red Sox after being 15 games behind.

If Selig wants to fix the problem, he should find a new city that WILL support the Marlins team, and move them there.

Or give us fans a good reason why we should go to a hot humid game and watch Cabrera rip his pants when he bend down to field a grounder. In 03-05 we had a decent attendance, maybe with a decent team and a roof, we won't be selling our tickets to Mets fans.

The Marlins and Royals should switch rosters. Move a young, talented team to a fan base that would care more and a less talented team to a fan base where they couldn't care less.

I know that Sanchez is out, but he'd still be pretty good next year.

That would be a pretty damn good rotation I think. It's a young rotation too with improvement still. ;D
