They did it. The biggest collapse in baseball history. With a 7 game lead and 17 left to play on September 12, the Mets had time to build a comfortable lead and stay in control. 18 days later on the last day of the month, they failed to win the game and give themselves a chance at the playoffs and completed a bigger collapse than the Phillies.
Tom Glavine's Mets career will forever be remembered by this start. The last of the season and the last of his career, he gave the team the worst outing of his entire career. He recorded one out (on a fielder's choice) and allowed 5 hits, 2 walks, and 7 runs thanks to his pitching and fielding.
This team didn't deserve anything. They felt they were going to make the playoffs no matter what happened. It's only fitting that a team this arrogant ends their season in this fashion.

I don't feel bad for the Mets, but I feel horrible for Glavine. This was not the way he expected to end his hall of fame career. If he were to play a Roger Clemens and come out of retirement, do you think the Mets would go after him?

Maybe. Personally, I never want to see that scumbag ever again in a Mets uniform. If he had any ounce of loyalty in his body, he would have gone back to the Braves to get his 300th win. He only stayed with the Mets because he got more money.
I don't feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for everyone except Beltran, Delgado, and Willie.
Beltran probably cares less than me. Delgado has killed them all season long. Willie is a complete idiot and instilled a sense of arrogance and entitlement.
I feel bad for Lo Duca, Green, and Conine. They won't be back and deserved to win. Castillo too (but I think he'll be back).
Also, I don't feel sorry for Reyes. He deserved the boos he got today.

160 games is a lot of games. They should definatly consider finding a backup SS for next year. He clearly produces more and proves more valuable when given a rest here and there.

Randolph waited too long until he couldn't afford to give Jose more rest. One of the many reasons he should lose his job.
