DETROIT (AP) -- Outfielder Carl Crawford was activated from the disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday after sitting out 1 1/2 months because of a finger injury that required surgery.
Crawford injured a tendon in the middle finger of his right hand on Aug. 9 when he checked his swing while batting against Seattle. He was operated on five days later.
Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said Crawford could be available for pinch running or as a late-inning defensive replacement during the weekend series with the Tigers, which ends the regular season.
The Rays are headed to their first postseason appearance, and Crawford hopes to be ready when the playoffs start next week.
"It's a possibility" Maddon said. "We'll see how it develops the next couple of days."
Crawford was to hit some softly tossed pitches on Saturday and hit in the batting cage on Sunday.
