ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Pitching coach Dave Duncan will be back with the St. Louis Cardinals next season.
The Cardinals announced Friday that Duncan has agreed to a one-year contract with an option for 2010. Terms were not disclosed.
Duncan has been the Cardinals' pitching coach since Tony La Russa arrived as manager prior to the 1996 season. He has been credited with turning around the careers of several pitchers, including Kyle Lohse, who earlier this week signed a four-year contract to stay with the team.
Duncan is 62 and has been a major league pitching coach for 29 seasons. He has been La Russa's pitching coach since 1983 with the White Sox, Athletics and Cardinals.
