Padres: Go from a one game playoff in 2007 to one of the worst teams in baseball. Mariners: Traded away prized prospects for Erik Bedard who had a sub-par season Giants: Great pitching performances by Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain wasted by a retched offense. Nationals: No life what so ever from this team, and they fail to sign there first round draft pick. Tigers: highest payroll in baseball, predicted to set offensive records......last place.
Records: Padres: 63-99 Mariners: 61-101 Giants: 72-90 Nationals: 59-102 Tigers: 74-88

Easily the Nats or Mariners. I'll say the Nats since AL > NL.

Mariners come a close 2nd though due to their high payroll expectation.

Mariners come a close 2nd though due to their high payroll expectation. Yea...the M's were pretty awful too. I didn't even have to watch the games when the Royals played 'em at the end of the year...it was a guaranteed win.

Mariners easily. They traded a lot to get Bedard. Had over $100M in payroll. Were expected to compete for not only the WC but the division. Their season was a disaster on and off the field.

I have to pick Detroit. Expectations were so high and they flopped. They easily had the worst season.

Why do expectations have anything to do with being bad?
This isn't "Most disappointing team in 2008?" It's "Worst team...."

Why do expectations have anything to do with being bad? This isn't "Most disappointing team in 2008?" It's "Worst team...." The poll question says Who had the worst season? In my eyes it was Detroit, if you wanted records, than obviously it's Washington, but then why have a poll. Detroit, in my eyes had the worst season. They should have been top, not bottom of the A.L Central.

Nats.
The only team in baseball that I would say has no bright spots what so ever.

Trading away Xavier Nady and Jason Bay kinda keep them off the list since they got loads of prospects
