Joe Giradi has been offered the Yankees manager position, and Don Mattingly won't return the Yankees for next season, and could follow Joe Torre to the Dodgers.

He accepted it, and I'm surprised and happy. Although I was 99% sure Mattingly would get the nod, I'm very happy Girardi got it. He has the better baseball mind. Look at what he did to the Marlins two years ago. He had that pitching staff pitching like a playoff team!

The Yankees don't have a home run hitter so it works out. Although they don't have one solid big HR guy anymore, Posada, Cano, Abreu, Giambi and Matsui can all still hit a home run at any moment. None are big power bats, but all of those 20+ home run guys will add up to a lot of home runs. |
