The Red Sox did end up winning the World Series, but it wasn't from his production. Do you think it was still money well spent, or can the Red Sox still be champion without Dice-K in their rotation?

no. If he was young, then maybe. But isn't he in his thirties now?

He was 26 when they sign him.

His control was horrible at the end of the year.
But no, not really. Basically it's a 6y/100m contract, was Dice worth 17 million this year? Hell no.

He was. All of you are only thinking of his production on the field. You fail to realize how obsessed Japan is with him. The revenue they made from Japan alone probably paid for a year of his salary.

He will be better next year. He was adjusting to ML hitters and ballparks. He probably felt pressure to do more than he could. He also has the pressure of needing to win a WS off his shoulder. He'll never have to worry about having to prove his worth by winning one in the future; he already did it this season.

This was the year that MLB hitters had to adjust to his shuuto pitch. Now that they done that, I want to see how Dice-K will avoid getting cream next year.

Dice-K isn't worth the money. He had a 4.40 ERA, and went 15-12. His ERA was too high, and he lost too many games for them. I know the Red Sox won the WS, but he wasn't the reason why. His postseason ERA added up says it all. 5.03....

You fail to look past the statistics. Dice-K is huge, HUGE in Japan. The revenue the Red Sox have made from his popularity there is inconceivable.
Post-season ERA is a bad measure to judge a player. It's good for a 162 game season but not for the playoffs because of how small it is. He only had 1 bad start in the playoffs, Game 3 of the ALCS. Francona gave him a quick hook in the ALDS. He pitched very well in Game 7 of the ALCS and Game 3 of the World Series.

I'm saying that he isn't worth the money that he is being paid to pitch for the Red Sox. Everyone thought that he was going to be amazing. What Red Sox fan would've thought that he would end the season with a 4.40 ERA, and a 15-12 record? I know he is very popular in Japan, but Japan is Japan. I'm just trying to say that he hasn't pitched as well as people thought he would've.

I think he'll be better next season when he gets more adjusted to the mlb hitters. Although so far he hasn't been worth it.

His popularity makes his contract worth it. You guys really have no idea as to how much the Red Sox are making. After his 6 years in Boston, he'll have paid for himself.
