Just curious if anyone has tried this before? and did you have success? I just started this last year for fun....kinda cool I got Ian Kinsler to sign a Topps RC. When I was 8 years old, I sent off for Cal Ripken Jr. Of course he had someone type a letter, saying " I am too busy to respond to all of my mail". However he did send me a autographed picture and a letter saying that he hoped to see me at Camden Yards the up and coming season.

I actually did it 3 times.
One to Mike Morgan when he played for the Dodgers. Got the card back signed.
One to Nolan Ryan. Got the card back unsigned, but an autographed photo accompanied the returned card.
The last card I sent was to Ken Griffey Jr when he played for the Mariners. The day I sent that card off was the last day I ever saw it again.

I know Alex Gordon's dad somewhat. He's said if I ever wanted anything signed, he'd send it to him for me (or anyone for that matter).

I've never done autographs through the mail. I've always gotten them signed in person. It's more memorable that way.

I'm a big collector of autos through the mail started when I was about 9 years old and am 30 now and haven't skipped a beat. I've gotten about 3000 autos this way from stars to bench players all the way up to some hall of famers. My biggest acquisitions to me are Bobby Doerr the Sox HoF 2nd sacker and Negro league star Cool Papa Bell and oddly enough since you mentioned it a Cal Ripken Card called baseball family with Cal Jr. SR. and Billy. Cal Jr. sent me a letter back saying he had his whole family sign it for me and he was sorry for the delay but I hope it was worth the wait. The best way about going about it is to get a book called Baseball autograph collectors handbook vol 14. and you will find home addresses for all the players and retired players you would ever want. you can find the book here : www.baseballaddresses.com/hope this helps and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Any other way to get addresses? Sure theres a few ways actually. heres a website for a VERY comprehensive list: www.sportsaddresslists.com/index.htmlAlso I have a buddy that likes to do his own research so he purchased a membership to a people search site and uses it to look them up. All you need is thier name and D.O.B. Heres another site that you can use for free: www.fanmail.biz/If you have any other questions let me know I'm always excited to talk about my hobby with people.
