I believe it but I'm sure he'd love to make $20M a year as well.

7 years, 175 mil with plenty of incentives

Yankees are dumb and desperate enough to offer more.
That is why you need to trade for him now and sign him to an extension when no other team is involved.

I agree with Seaver, Omar is the most overrated GM. The Pirates were looking to ship Perez off because he needed a change of scenery. He obviously had talent. And it was also obvious that the Mets needed another SP last offseason and another bullpen arm, but he failed to acquire both.

I don't know if he's the most overrated. Billy Beane is up there. He relied too much on pitching and one-year-wonders during Oakland's run. That team should have won at least one pennant.

If he does hit the free agent market he will instantly be a Yankee. They are prepared and able to offer atleast 5-10million more than the next guy.

I think turning down Garza for Gomez (which Keith Law said Omar did) is ridiculous...I know the Mets need a pitcher, and Garza is a very, very good one.

I've heard on talk shows and ESPNEWS people praising Omar and saying how he is one of the best GM's in the game. I have nothing against the guy, I think he's a decent GM, but I just believe he gets way too much praise

The Mets offered Heilman and they turned it down. They probably wanted Humber or Pelfrey which he thought of was too much.

If he does hit the free agent market he will instantly be a Yankee. They are prepared and able to offer atleast 5-10million more than the next guy. It's no guarantee at all. I doubt they will be foolish enough to pay $23M for a pitcher when they're paying A-Rod $27M and Jeter will probably bitch that he deserves as much money as A-Rod despite being half the player he is. Then again, they are the Yankees and would be stupid enough to do that. The Mets, if they're willing, could pay Santana a very good sum of money. They did beat the Yankees at getting Beltran (who said he wanted to play for the Yankees). I think turning down Garza for Gomez (which Keith Law said Omar did) is ridiculous...I know the Mets need a pitcher, and Garza is a very, very good one. I checked with my friend. The deal died because the Twins wanted another player, most likely Heilman. They wanted the Mets to eat some of his salary but because of Fred and Jeff's new mandate that Omar can't eat any salary, it died.
