I think that baseball needs more excitement. There are mainly a few reasons why most teens think baseball is 'stupid' - - The entire thing takes place over summer break.
- There aren't many exciting rivalries like in football (OSU vs. MU, Colts vs. Patriots, Appalachian State vs. MU) except for Red Sox-Yankees, which is pretty much dying right now.
Mainly the second/last one. Now, list the number of major rivalries that you can think of that get you as rowdy and excited as, say, Ohio State-Michigan does. 1) Red Sox-Yankees 2) Cubs-White Sox (though no one likes the cubs, myself included) I can't really think of any more at the moment. Baseball needs excitement. Energy. A feel that gets your adrenaline pumping. That makes you stay there and keep your eyes open to the end. It already has that, but few outside of the game realize it. Thoughts?

There are a lot of rivalries. They're not as big as ones in football because the rival teams meet several times each year. It's not like Michigan and OSU where it's one game a year.
I love that baseball happens in the summer. I get to follow it better and it's always fun to spend a day watching a game. This year I went on a road trip to see the Mets in Milwaukee and Chicago which was so much fun.

I blame the playoff for the short number of rivalries. We keep on getting a new team winning the World Series each year. No team have won more then 2 WS since 2000. Because of that we don't have "an evil empire" team for baseball. Plus with all the short series we had in the playoff, that doesn't help create rivalry either.

You guys are, essentially, proving my point. I said that only fans of baseball would know, and you guys are proving it. The thing is, the people outside of it don't know about them, so they think baseball is a dumb, boring, not exciting sport, which it isn't.

Cardinals/Cubs is a big rivalry that got lost in the shuffle with the Red Sox/Yankee crap that ESPN creams their jeans over.
Baseball is exciting enough. The only thing they should change is to have shorter playoffs. Too much time off.

Don't forget the pressure, there are plenty of those when the closer get call up.
