The Reds forty man roster has been set, with six players added. Yesterday was the deadline for all teams to finalize the roster before the Rule V Draft. Here is the press release:
TODAY’S NEWS: The Reds today added to the 40-man roster RHP Richie Gardner, IF Paul Janish, LHP Tyler Pelland, RHP Ramon Ramirez, C Craig Tatum and RHP Daryl Thompson...today is the deadline for all 30 Major League Baseball teams to file their reserve lists for the upcoming Rule 5 Draft, scheduled for December 6 during the Winter Meetings in Nashville...any player eligible for the Rule 5 Draft who is not protected on a Major League 40-man roster may be selected by another team...eligibility for the draft depends on the player’s age during the signing season of his first contract...generally, players who sign at age 19 or older are under a club’s control for 4 seasons, while players who sign at age 18 or younger are under a club’s control for 5 seasons...after today’s deadline, no team can promote a minor league player to its 40-man roster until after the Rule 5 Draft, though it can remove a player from the roster to make room for a Rule 5 draft selection.

Lets take a look at who was added.
RHP Richie Gardner- Gardner used to be a very highly rated prospect in the Reds organization. But, he had a lot of arm trouble. Last year, he rejuvenated himself with a very strong performance in double A. In triple A, he struggled. But he is someone to keep an eye on.
IF Paul Janish- Janish struggled with his hitting in both double and triple A last season. he is worth the risk because of the low infield depth and his defense.
LHP Tyler Pelland- This was the most obvious choice of them all. Pelland put up good numbers at double and triple A last season, looking very nice. He is still only twenty-four, and looks like he can help the Reds bullpen a lot in this upcoming season.
RHP Ramon Ramirez- This was the worst move. Ramirez is a twenty-five year old who pitched mostly in single A last season, compiling less than stellar numbers. Ramirez would most likely not be taken in the draft, and if he was, it would be doubtful he could stay on a major league roster for an entire season.
C Craig Tatum- Tatum is a twenty-four year old who put up great numbers in high single A last season, but struggled when called up to double A. The Reds did this because they are very low in minor league catching depth, and also because of Tatum's success in the Arizona Fall League.
RHP Daryl Thompson- Thomson is a twenty-two year old who put up very good numbers on both single A teams. He is now looking like a bonus to the trade which shall not be mentioned two seasons ago.
The most notable person left off this list is Carlos Guevara, a twenty-five year old relief pitcher for double A. He put up very good numbers there. The reason that they did not put him on the roster might be that he is too old. He will almost certainly be taken in the draft. Hopefully he is unable to stay on the major league roster the whole season for that club, and returns to the Reds.
Here is how the forty-man roster looks after these moves:

It came as a surprise to many people that the roster is complete, leaving no room for any signings or players taken in the draft. But many players on the roster, such as Buck Coats, are expendable. I expect to see some players released or taken off the roster soon.
- The Reds announced who their coaches for the next season will be in the minor leagues.

The new Chattanooga manager, Mike Goff, was Seattle's pitching coach last season. I don't know a whole lot about these guys, so I don't really have anything else to say.
